Asian American Civic Association (AACA)

The Asian American Civic Association began in 1967 as the Chinese American Civic Association to meet the social and cultural needs of first and second generation Chinese-Americans. By 1990, CACA was providing comprehensive educational and immigration assistance to Asian immigrants. In 1992, the organization changed its name to the Asian American Civic Association (AACA) to better reflect its mission.

AACA operates three programs:

  • The Education Center, which provides ESL and Adult Basic Education (ABE) as well as prevocational and vocational skills training.
  • The Multi-Service Center, which offers immigration counseling, housing assistance, income tax assistance, fuel assistance, job counseling/placement, and translation/interpretation services.
  • The Sampan Newspaper, which is the sole bilingual English/Chinese newspaper in New England. The paper is distributed to 6000 members of the greater Boston Asian community twice a month.
